OUR MISSION: To preserve and foster the fine art of woodworking (including turning) in South Florida.
HOW WE DO IT: Member meeting where we share ideas, exhibit work, discuss problems and
techniques, sponsor seminars and mentor new members.
OUR MEETINGS: The second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM at the Woodcraft store, U.S. 1 and
SE 12th Street (Pompano Marketplace shopping center), Pompano Beach Florida.
MEMBERSHIP: Open to male and female hobbyists (especially novices) and professionals interested
in fine woodworking. Those who want to learn to get better and share what they have learned.
MEMBER BENEFITS:
SEMINARS Each Spring we sponsor a weekend seminar on a specific woodworking subject. Some subjects:
using hand tools, finishing, box making, design, and table saw safety. We bring in the best in fine woodworking.
Do you recognize the names Garrett Hack, Philip Lowe, Jeff Jewitt, Doug Stowe? They, and others, have come to
South Florida to teach our members. We learn from the best at a very modest cost.
LEARNING At most meetings a member will demonstrate a machine or technique that he or she uses extensively.
Examples: veneering, pen making, inlays and intarsia.
SHOW & TELL: A highlight of meetings is members showing what they've built and explaining the challenges and
techniques used for a particular project.
JIGS & GADGETS The wonders of our hobby include the solutions devotees come up with or learn of to make our
work easier and better: homemade jigs and new tools that can be purchased are displayed and explained.
TUITION PRIZE: Points are awarded to members who participate at meetings and a drawing is held at year-end.
The winner gets a tuition paid week-long course of his or her choice at a major woodworking school.
LIBRARY: We have over 200 books and videos on woodworking available to all members
.
FIELD TRIPS: We have visited sellers of exotic woods, and museum collections of fine woodworking.
DISCOUNTS: Available to members at Woodcraft, Amazon Exotic Hardwoods, Inc., Blue Linx Hardwoods,
Beall Tool Co. and others.
DUES: $40.00 per year
